"Mr. Big"
Arizona Desert Mule Deer
200 2/8"
Read the full story of "Mr. Big" in the 1990 Arizona Wildlife Federation Record Book.
In short, "Mr. Big" was a buck Dan was hunting during an archery only season and poachers took this buck and a doe with a rifle while Dan was in the brush waiting for this buck to come close enough to let an arrow fly. Dan never got the chance. He gave evidence to the Arizona Game & Fish Department and after agents took the buck from the poachers, Dan donated a cape and mounted the buck for G&F where it hung for years on display at the Region V office. Many, many years later, G&F, unknown to Dan, donated the mount to the Arizona Mule Deer Foundation to be silent auctioned at a banquet to raise funds for Mule Deer habitat. We were invited to attend the banquet and seeing "Mr. Big" only from a back view, Dan said "Do you know who that is?!!" We bid, and bid, then bid some more. In the end, we won "Mr. Big" and he came home with Dan. Read the full story "The Return of Mr. Big" in Trophy Hunter Magazine, Fall 2000.
