Dan has been hiking and exploring southern Arizona for over 45 years. Monica & Dan run King Guide Service, The Prehistoric Collector, Rarepottery.info, and Monica Miksa-King Honey Farms. These businesses combine to bring you expert knowledge in the local wildlife, plants, and Native American Cultures. Monica is also a beekeeper and blogger for Savor the Southwest. We have been setting up at the Tucson Fossil Show for 15 years and thus have knowledge of rocks and minerals. Even Tucson locals that hike with use are bound to learn or see something new.

EXPLORE THE SONORAN DESERT HIKE: Over our years of exploring we have found unique places that many local Tucsonans don't even know exist. These places are hidden gems in the Altar and Avra Valleys just West of Tucson. Each outing starts at a different location. Guests may choose an outing theme: Prehistoric Native American, Mineral and Historical, Wildlife and/or Desert Plants. Prehistoric Native American takes you to visit Petroglyphs and discusses daily life of those that walked these paths before us. Mineral and Historical discusses local mining and tales of the rough pioneer life while visiting adobe ruins and mine tailings. The Wildlife tour talks of local animals and their habitat. The Desert Plant hike guides guests through native species that may include crested saguaros, varigated saguaros, and the endangered Pima Pineapple Cactus while pointing out different forageable food sources. While hiking guests will learn tips on survival if lost in the Sonoran Desert and what to do if you ever encounter feral honeybees. Bottled water included.
DAY HUNT any in season small game/birds (without the aid of dogs). This hunt does NOT include hunting license or any permit-tag fees that are applicable such as Migratory Bird Stamps, Federal & State Duck Stamps, etc. Please contact us for dates individual seasons open and close. Meals, lodging, transportation included. Dates and prices are subject to changes by the Arizona Game & Fish Department.
